The most traveled route to Pawleys Island and the Carolina lowcountry is Hwy. 501 to Myrtle Beach, then south on Hwy. 17 Bypass. Because Myrtle Beach is such a popular tourist destination, this route sometimes becomes quite congested in the summer months. Here are some alternate route that will lead you around the traffic of Conway and Myrtle Beach. From Columbia, South Carolina, follow Hwy. 378 east to Hwy. 261. Proceed south to Manning, where you take Hwy. 521 south to Georgetown. From Georgetown follow Hwy. 17 north to Pawleys Island and Litchfield Beach. Or you may take exit 190 from I-95 to Dillon, then follow Hwy. 301 south to Latta, where you take Hwy. 501 to the Marion bypass. Once past Marion, take Alt. 41 south to Rhems, where you turn left onto Route 51 to Georgetown. In Georgetown, follow Hwy. 701 south to Hwy. 17 and proceed north to Pawleys Island and Litchfield Beach.
