Welcome to South Carolina’s History Port City
Georgetown, SC (circa 1750) is the state’s third oldest port and resides along the banks of Sampit River and Winyah Bay. Time still seems to stand still in Georgetown, especially along its waterfront. The oak-lined avenues of this "little Charleston" city boast group tour and quaint vacation experiences for families and couples alike. Much like Charleston, SC, the Historic District of Georgetown, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, comprises the area of the original town plan.
The riverfront is alive with history, dining, shopping, and seasonal events. And a favorite way to experience and discover Georgetown, SC, is by water. A selection of boat tours will take you in and around Winyah Bay and the surrounding rivers, past plantation mansions and long-abandoned rice fields. And don’t forget about the North Island Lighthouse, stationed on a remote barrier island great for bird watching and shell collecting.
Although some of the plantation homes are gone, many remain to give the area a real flavor of yesteryear. When you’re looking for a the perfect lowcountry vacation, look no further than Georgetown, SC, and eLowcountry.com
